How Kris reads a property
Thirty years in the security and law enforcement industries teaches something no specification sheet covers. Kris has sat across the table from offenders and listened to how they target a property before they approach it, sometimes days or weeks before the event. They note the height of the fence relative to the neighbouring garden. They clock whether the side gate has a visible lock from the road. They time the gap between a door opening and an alarm sounding, because that window is what they plan around.
A system covering the front door and the driveway looks thorough on a spec sheet. Whether it covers the rear garden access, the side passage or the gap between properties where most residential entries are actually made is a different question entirely. That is what Kris looks for at the survey, reading the property from the outside in, the way an intruder would, before a single sensor is agreed. The system that comes from that process is different from the one a standard quote would produce, and that difference is the whole point.

Wired or wireless?
For most properties the answer is wireless, and it is a shorter conversation than people expect. A new build is the exception: while the walls are still open there is nothing to damage, so a wired system makes sense. Everywhere else, wireless sensors go in without cutting into finished plaster or lifting carpets, and current Pyronix and Ajax equipment does everything wired kit used to.
Which sensors a property actually needs
Most homes come down to three types, and the skill is choosing the right one for the room rather than fitting the most.
PIR sensors sit in the corner and read movement by infrared. They cover the space between doors, which is usually more useful than covering the doors themselves.
Dual-technology PIRs are for the rooms that defeat a standard sensor. A conservatory or a garage swings through a wide temperature range, and heat moving on its own is enough to trip an ordinary PIR. A dual-tech sensor waits for heat and movement together, so the system stops crying wolf.
Door contacts go on the points of entry, where you want the panel to know the moment something opens.
The bit everybody sees
A sounder on the front of the house is the first thing a burglar reads, and it is doing a job before the system is ever triggered. It wants to be high, on the elevation people approach from, and squarely on the brickwork rather than tucked out of sight where nobody looks.
